Congressional Candidate Dr. David Gill Wins Endorsement of Progressive Democrats of America

BLOOMINGTON, IL -- Dr. David Gill, candidate for Illinois 15th Congressional district, traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, over the weekend to accept the endorsement of Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) and build momentum for his campaign to unseat five-term incumbent Tim Johnson.

“I was honored to attend the event and to receive such a warm welcome from the PDA leaders across the country,” Dr. Gill said. “They were very enthused about the campaign -- in fact, on the final morning, they even ‘passed the hat’ and opened their own individual wallets, adding to the ‘Gill for Congress’ bank account. They appear to be willing and able to take my message nationwide, and I think that we'll be receiving plenty of support from like-minded individuals from around the country over these next several weeks.”

An array of progressive leaders and community organizers spent three days developing goals and strategies to address our nation’s most pressing problems. The platform includes the creation and financing of green jobs; properly reforming health care to improve efficiency, lower cost, and expand access to all; and ending wasteful and unnecessary military spending by withdrawing troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

PDA Illinois chair Bill Bianchi introduced Dr. Gill to the regional groups.  PDA officially endorsed Dr. Gill along with Marleine Bastien (FL-17), Doug Tudor (FL-12) and Bill Hedricks (CA-44).

Dr. Gill met and discussed issues with PDA director Tim Carpenter; Congressman Dennis Kucinich (OH-10); radio commentator and author Jim Hightower; Wendell Potter, senior fellow on health care with the Center for Media and Democracy; and Daniel Ellsberg, author of Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers.
