December 5th, 2009 - Celebrate the UCIMC's 10 Year Anniversary!

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Indy Media movement and the founding of the UCIMC.

 

A (very) brief UCIMC history:

Back in 1999, several local unions donated money to send 18 people from UC to Seattle to protest WTO meetings. They came back and founded UC-IMC on Sept. 24, 2000. Ten years later, UCIMC members continue building the Indymedia movement both in CU and globally.

Celebrate!  December 5th, 2009: 

On December 5th, 2009, we will be celebrating 10 years of the Indy Media movement and kicking off the 10th year of the UCIMC's existence.  Come help us celebrate the victories and remember the struggles of the past 10 years.

 

2pm-5pm: Free Community and Youth Media Workshops:

5pm: Panel on the Indy Media Movement:

At 5pm, you're invited to a panel discussion with founding members and supporters of the Independent Media Movement, from 1999-present. Get a historical perspective on the Indy Media Movement and brainstorm for the future with IndyMedia activists, including:

with local activists & regional IMC members and supporters

At 8pm, celebrate 10 years of solidarity - we'll have live music, a DJ, food, drink, and good company.

Lobby Dedication at 4pm

At 4pm, local historian Ilona Matkovski will present the dedication of the IMC's historic Post Office lobby to the Webber Family.  The Webbers have served Urbana since 1851, when Thomson R. Webber served as Urbana's first post master.  In 1914, Charles M. Webber was the first Post Master to serve at the 202 S. Broadway location.  Most recently, Carl Webber has generously provided the IMC with valuable legal services.  Please join us as we thank the Webber Family.
